Carney T. DeSarno M.D., F.A.C.S.
The founder of Jersey Shore Advanced Surgical Associates, Dr. Carney T. DeSarno, M.D. is a board-certified general surgeon a native of New Jersey, having been born at Jersey Shore Medical Center and raised in Wall Township. Dr. DeSarno is a graduate of Wall High School, where he was co-captain of the state champion Wall Crimson Knights football team and was the recipient of the Thom McAnn Scholar Athlete Award in 1985. Dr. DeSarno’s early aspirations were to become a physician, and he opted to attend Johns Hopkins University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1989. Dr. DeSarno received his medical degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in 1993, and chose to return to his home in New Jersey to train in general surgery at Monmouth Medical Center. After completing his surgical residency in 1998, Dr. DeSarno began his surgical career in Neptune, New Jersey, just a few hundred yards from the hospital in which he was born, and where he remains today.
Dr. DeSarno has been elected "NJ Top Doctor" by his peers in 2012 for his commitment to general surgery and breast surgery. He also has been awarded New Jersey Monthly Nurses Choice Top Doctor in 2010.
Dr. DeSarno is a Board Certified General Surgeon who comes with many years of experience and a dedication to his community that is unmatched. He was inducted into the Wall High School Alumni Association Hall of Fame in 2002 for his service to his community and academic achievements. As a specialist in gall bladder, hernia, colon, and breast surgery, Dr. DeSarno has treated thousands of patients in our area and the neighboring communities.

Seth Kipnis M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Seth M. Kipnis is a minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgeon and bariatric surgeon, fellowship trained in advanced laparoscopy and endoscopy, and a board certified general surgeon. He is currently the Director of Bariatric Surgery at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, a Bariatric Center of Excellence.
In his practice, Dr. Seth M. Kipnis focuses on advanced laparoscopy and bariatric surgery (weight loss surgery). Specializing in sleeve gastrectomy and gastric band surgery as well as complex, advanced laparoscopic techniques paraesophageal/hiatal/diaphragm hernias, reflux, colectomy, splenectomy, and hernia repair), he provides a unique skill while treating all of his patients like family. Gastric and abdominal operations are performed with uncompromising skill often with the use of advanced endoscopy and DaVinci Robotic procedures. He remains at the forefront of the most advanced techniques and procedures available in order to best meet the needs of his patients.
Dr. Kipnis was born and raised in Long Island and graduated from the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts. He received his Medical Degree in 2000 from SUNY-Health Science Center in Syracuse, New York. Dr. Kipnis completed a six-year university training program in General Surgery at the UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Piscataway/New Brunswick, New Jersey in 2006.
Dr. Kipnis completed a minimally invasive surgery and bariatric fellowship while at Penn State.
Dr. Kipnis is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a member of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, American Society of Bariatric Surgeons, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American College of Surgeons. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson, in New Brunswick, NJ. As part of the teaching faculty at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, he actively instructs both residents and medical students on a daily basis.
Dr. Kipnis has expertise in use of the robotic surgery system for the more complex surgical procedures. He was the first general surgeon at Jersey Shore University Medical Center to become skilled in the use of the single site robotic surgical system and uses it regularly to perform complex minimally invasive operations. In 2013, he was the first surgeon at Jersey Shore University Medical Center to perform a robotic single incision cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal).
